What's the Story

Activity Description: Instructor pairs the students and sends them a link to a website that has a storyboard (images). Prior to class, the instructor took approximately 8-10 screenshots of a video that told a story. The screenshots were shared with the students via padlet.com. Students discuss what they see in the images in their target language and try to determine what the story may be. Students are paired with new partners several times to get different perspectives on the story and enter their comments into Padlet.com. Once students have spent a sufficient amount of time commenting, the instructor sends the actual video to the students so that they can see what the story conveys. Students then watch the video and discuss the story with a partner or group.

The instructor then sends the actual dialogue from the video to the students in a Word document. Students then read the dialogue and determine which dialogue matches which character or summarize what the dialogue is communicating. This is also an opportunity to work on particular grammar and text comprehension.

Modifications: This may be done with a silent video so that students are not able to hear the story. If the video is audible the dialogue may be scrambled so that the students are required to pair up and try to put the dialogue in the order it occurred in the video.
